Bichon Frise

Features:  The Bichon Frise has a thick, loosely curled coat colored white or white with buff or apricot. It has a broad, slightly rounded head. The Bichon Frise stands from 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 centimeters) high and weighs from 12 to 15 pounds (5.4 to 6.8 kilograms). Bichons are non-shedding and are, therefore, promoted as hypo-allergenic.

Height:  8 – 12 inches

Weight:  12 – 15 lbs

Colors:  Color is white, may have shadings of buff, cream or apricot around the ears or on the body. Any color in excess of 10% of the entire coat of a mature specimen is a fault and should be penalized, but color of the accepted shadings should not be faulted in puppies.

Gait:
Movement at a trot is free, precise and effortless. In profile the forelegs and hind legs extend equally with an easy reach and drive that maintain a steady topline. When moving, the head and neck remain somewhat erect and as speed increases there is a very slight convergence of legs toward the center line. Moving away, the hindquarters travel with moderate width between them and the foot pads can be seen. Coming and going, his movement is precise and true.

History:  Descended from the Barbet or Water Spaniel, this breed's name was derived from the name "Barbichan" which was later shortened to Bichon.

They appeared in Italy and then Spain where painters often included them in their works. They were also popular in France and Belgium where they became nobility favorites during the Renaissance era. The breed was introduced into the United States in the 1950's, received AKC recognition in 1973 and has since become highly successful in the show ring. The Bichon excels in Obedience and Agility and has established himself as an outstanding therapy dog. With his outgoing personality and social attitude, the Bichon has historically been known as a fine companion.

Disposition:
Gentle-mannered sensitive, playful  and affectionate. A cheerful attitude is the hallmark of the breed and one should settle for nothing less

Availability:
Bichon Frise puppies are available from Windsor’s Precious Pets several times a year. Most are ready to leave or be shipped by 8 to 12 weeks of age.
